Customizing FIM Portal - User Request Page
Does the FIM Portal lend it self to allowing Custom Web Pages. I need to create a Non-Employee (user) request web page for contractors and volunteers. I have succeeded in creating a simple page using resource types and attributes but it is ugly and not user friendly. The first page has items on it that will confuse users like Created time and Creator. And the meat of the data entry is located in the Extended Attributes page which cannot be directly access or can it? I need to make it simple for users to use with immediate entry validation and a simple search to bring up past entries and the ability to modify the past. I see that the workflow would lend itself well to the approval path but can a better UI be coded in .Net or some other avenue. Does the FIM Portal allow this? Are there examples that I could follow? Thanks, Rick

Hi Rick, Can you looked into creating new RCDC to display the information in the order that you want? Here is the technet documentation link for the same - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee534913(WS.10).aspx Thanks, Sri

Hi there, You can fully customize the page for creating the users or other objecttypes by setting up the appropriate RCDC. When you click on the "New" button it brings up the appropriate "Create" RCDC and displays it to your users. There is only one of these per objectType so therefore, craft it carefully. If you have the create time and everything on your page, it sounds like you're using the default RCDC that is created when you first create a new object type (or you have a red error message at the bottom of the screen where there was an error in the RCDC and to contact your administrator). Most likely, all you really need to do is customize the RCDC to get the base attributes you want into the appropriate grouping tabs. The RCDC Resource guide is a very handy tool -> http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee534918(WS.10).aspx You don't have the option to put in your own PAGES within the portal framework itself.. However, that being said, the pages you're linking to are all "relative" links for clicking to users, (which displays the user screen with the "NEW" "DELETE" buttons, etc so you could replace them... you would have to do this by creating a relative link that went off the default Forefront portal to your own custom pages to do data entry... those pages have to be able to set up the session with the FIM web service to submit your data and all would be well... its going to take a bit of effort to say the least... (Long story short, if you want to create a completely customized page with a specific look and feel that isn't supported within the RCDC framework, your only option is to build your own custom site that can communicate with the webservice on its own. Its one of the benefits to the modularity of FIM and the webservice that allows you to that.) Thanks B

Hi Rick, My requirement is create a user request web page for creating users. But, before doing that I created a user "test1" then provisioned to AD. Now I'm able to logged into the FIM portal with "test1" user but unable to view the "NEW, DELETE" buttons in "Users" tab it displays only "Details" button. Could you please help me how to bring to visible those buttons in Users tab. Thanks,
