Customize Version Numbering

Hi,

Is it possible to customize the numbering system of Version in SharePoint Online ?

My requirement is like this

1. For internal modification version numbering should be A,B,C,D etc

2. For major documents versions will be 100, 200 etc

3. For major version modifications version should be 100.00 , 100.01 etc.

Is it possible ? or any suggestion to achieve these three different codes ?

Thanks

Hi

try this workaround

create a new column to your list/library

attach workflow, start it  when an item is added/changed. Calculate based on version column a number how do you likes for case 2 and 3

Hi,

Thank you.

I have already tried by creating new calculated column with a formula for changing the version number.

But now the calculations are not working fast.

After uploading a new document, I opened the calculated column and simply clicked save. Then when coming back to document library the number is changing. Otherwise the calculated columns are empty.

Hi

as ID column, you can't use versioning column until the item is edited. So no way to use it  in a caulcated column

( check on my blog site , i wrote a post regarding ID )

So, option is to use a workflow

Hi,

I have tried by giving these conditions

=IF(Version="0.1","A",
IF(Version="0.2","B",
IF(Version="0.3","C",
IF(Version="0.4","D",
IF(Version="0.5","E",
IF(Version="0.6","F",
IF(Version="0.7","G",
)))))))&
IF(Version="0.8","H",
IF(Version="0.9","I",
))

The values are coming perfectly but I need to go to the column each time as I said in above post.

So will it work with workflows ?
