Custom task NOT available in  monitoring View for Operator Role
I have created a custom command line console task, targeted to windows server and stored in a custom Management pack. (The custom MP also holds the groups I created to target the subet of machines I wanted to monitor and this 'View' has been delegated to a specifically created user role and a Monitoring View with alert and state has been created also). In the admin view on the console the task is visible and runs fine for me as SCOm admin on console, but the Operator connecting via the web console cannot see this custom task listed, only a small subset of tasks under Windows Computer tasks are listed - I created a state view for Windows Server showing data for the specific group created for the servers i'm interested in. Is there any reason why the task is not appearing for the Operator role (all tasks are set to automatically approved in user role setup). How show tasks for global use and also for specific use for a group of machines be created? Any help much appreciated!!...

Hi Can you confirm if the operator connects through the full console, whether they can see their task. The web console has its limitations and it may not be displaying the custom tasks correctly. If the operator can't see the task through the OpsMgr full console then it is likely to be a scoping issue. Otherwise, it is likely to be a web console issue. Graham, is there an easy way of prompting the console (which is installed on my RMS) to prompt for credentials to test this as a one off so I don't have to do a console install on the operators PC? PS sorry if this is a stupid question!! Cheers

Graham, I launched the console using the RunAs method Paul advised below (thanks Paul!) and I can confirm that the tasks ARE appearing now so it looks like they dont appear just via web console. Is there any way to publish the tasks in web console (as this is the primary way we delegate out access to all operators) or is this just a known limitation of web console? Thanks...

Hi The web console has too many limitations for my personal liking and I have a number of enhancement requests open regarding functionality. This is a shame as updating standard operating consoles on operators machines (and keeping track of where they are deployed) can be a pain. I don't know of a way of adding this functionality (new task) into the webconsole but in general the web console just isn't very flexible in its current format. Perhaps someone else has other ideas \ suggestions. Good Luck GrahamView OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/
