Custom site template appears in site template gallery but not in custom tab in create screen
I created a new site template. It is in the site template gallery on the site but when I try to create a new site using the template, the template is not showing under the custom tab. There are 3 other templates in that gallery and they are all displayed in the custon tab but not the new one. Is there a way to create using the template if it is not in the custom tab? Or do I need to do something else to get it to show?

Hi, I understand that your site template didn’t appear in the custom tab when creating a site .There are some possibilities. So please give me some more information about your problem : 1. Which kind of site do you use to create the template? If you use publishing site to create the site template ,please check that you set this :Site Actions> Page layouts and templates>Subsites can use any site template. 2. How do you create your site template ? Using the function ‘Save site as template’ or using visual studio to write your own program to save site as a template? If you use the first choice ,then the template will appear in the site gallery and at the same time in the custom tab. This can be done through :Site Actions>save site as template. 3. You can use SharePoint Designer to create a new site using a site template by doing: File>New>web site>SharePoint template. On top of Entan's points, I'd like to add that any .stp template is always based on the definition of the site from which it was created. If you've placed it within the site gallary of a different site, which is based on another template, that's one strong reason as to why you're not going to see it.
