Custom Document library Content Type - Opening Error
I am deploying custom doc library as a feature and this is included with 28 content type and 10 pre-defined folder structure to store the documents. After the deployment into a site, out of 28, only dozen of content type files are opening successfully. Other are throwing error like " Word was unable to read this document. It may be corrupt. Try one or more the following:* Open and Rapair the file.* Open the file with the Text Recovery converter. or Microsoft Office Excel cannot access the file '<File URL Name >'. There are several possible reasons:. The file name or path doc not exist.. The file is being user by another program.. The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as currently open workbook. ". All the content type files are either MS Word or MS Excel documents only.Interesting part is , if the custom doc lib feature is deployed without pre-defined content type, then all the files are opening very correctly. Any suggestions to open all the 28 content types with pre-defined document library Thanks in advance

Hi, Look like you created a site definition? using VSeWSS? 28 CTypes is a lot of CTypes.. Note that every CType used on a list Expands the schema of the list and this can decrease performance.. Without knowing more and assuming you have the location of a working copy of the DocLib with CTypes applied with the templates working in the same site collection and the CTypes have a base type of Document... Go to Site Settings > Site Content Type Gallery > Site Content Type > Document Information Panel Settings and for each of the CTypes enter the URL to a Working copy of the template and then test... -Ivan Ivan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.
