Custom Agent in SCOM 2007 R2
agentless monitoring is probably what you want. The device has to be accessible, and thee has to be a way to open a port on it and listen/poll for the data. It doesn't have to involve XML from the device at all. If you have a way to script reading data from the device, putting this into a scripted rule that outputs a property bag with data in it (perf or event data) for instance, you can make a custom data source module that takes the IP address or URL as a configuration parameter, does what needs to be done to get data from your device, and then output data that SCOM can natively handle. Lots of examples of this around ...Microsoft Corporation

Hi, I want to know that can custom agent for SCOM be developed? I am monitoring some servers by polling method. These servers do not have any Windows or Unix OS so I cannot deploy agent on them. Everytime time I have to poll its data into cache, parse it into XML and the I populate it in SCOM (via MP). But now I want to implement a method to use agent as proxy for that device. So that it poles data from the servers and send to SCOM, like event subscription(XML Integration). Can this be possible? If yes then how can I proceed? Regards, Ravi
