This issue I see so many posts on, but never a good answer: "The server returned a non-specific error when trying to get data from the datasource. Check the content and the format of your query and try again. If the problem still persists, please contact your administrator" I had created a dataview of a links list on one site collection to place on related site collections to provide some navigation. This worked for many months, but a couple of weeks ago it stopped working. When I checked the XML Web Services link by clicking on "Show Data", I get the error above. Further, we have Bamboo Solutions Lookup Column installed in our environment. This column allows lookups on other sites or site collections. It, too, has stopped working with the error above. Clearly, my issue is not simply a SharePoint Designer issue. We did implement NLB in our environments at about the same time. The one qual web application host name we inadvertently missed still allowed for data access through Designer, which is why we suspect NLB is the culprit here. I did ask that the other web app our qual environment be removed from NLB, and it has been, but it did not fix the issue. Has anyone else had similar issues implementing NLB and SharePoint, or is there something else going on here? Thanks!

I have the same issue with non NLB farm in the RTM version. Any ideas anyone?
