Creating new GUID's after backup/restore of a site.
I backed up a site and restore the site to another server. The lists and libraries from the site were brought over after the backup/restore process and the GUID's for those list and libraries are the same on the new site after the restore. I am trying to find out if there is any way to refresh or create new GUID's for those lists. Is there an stsadm command or something that can be done to do this.

Hi bootzilla, You can create GUID through the following two ways: 1. Create GUID in Visual Studio. You can refer to this blog to get detailed information about this method: http://karinebosch.wordpress.com/2009/05/28/create-guid-in-visual-studio-2008/. 2. Create GUID through PowerShell. You can refer to this article to get detailed information about this method: http://weblogs.asp.net/soever/archive/2007/05/31/generate-a-list-of-guid-s.aspx. Thanks & Regards, Peng Lei

I've never seen a way to change the GUID of an existing list. As a workaround I do know that if you transfer a site by saving it as a template, transferring the template and creating a new site based on the template that all the lists etc get new GUIDs. So if using templates will work as a migration path for you that'll resolve the GUID issue.

HI, I suggest you to go for STSADM export import instead of import. This will create new GUIDs. You can follow the following steps for this: 1. Take STSADM export of the source site. 2. Using STSADM create the destination blank site. 3. Import the content using STSADM import method. I hope this will help you out. Thanks, Rahul Rashu
