Creating databases to an existing AG
Hi guys, Hopefully you can help me to get to know the best way how to create new databases in an existing available group. For SharePoint it is recommended to configure a CAP. Therefore I need an additional name and another IP but it this really necessary? If so there would be two names and two IPs for every AG if I want to install the databases directly. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh913923(v=office.14).aspx I thought therefore we configured the listener: An availability group listener is a server name to which clients can connect in order to access a database in a primary or secondary replica of an AlwaysOn availability group. Why do we need a CAP too? Are there other ports in use? Thanks everyone for clarification! Viele Gre Christian

Hi Christian, AlwaysON AG Listener must be cerated in SSMS or by using t-sql or PS - at least the first one. Additional CAP resource can be created in the WSFC console when you need more listeners (and/or using a multi-subnet cluster). I am managing couple of SP SQL backends with a single listener, I did not add any additional CAP. I hope it helps. JanosThere are 10 type of people. Those who understand binary and those who do not. Hi Janos, Thanks for your fast response! I only was confused why they are recommanded to add a listener and CAP. So I can use the standard listener during an app installation and the databases will be created on the active node. After that I had to add the databases to the AG of the listener. Is this right? Thanks Christian
