Flat file source will accept flat file data, nor excel data. You need to use Data Flow Control task, and in the data flow, you can use Excel Source for that. http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/datacenter/how-to-import-an-excel-file-into-sql-server-2005-using-integration-services/205 remember, you need to have excel in the server where ssis package will run. regards joon

Hi, Thanks for the input it worked. I have one more question: Does BIDS 2005 support .xlsx files? If so what is the work around?

It can supoort .xlsx files, you need to modify the connection string property of EXCEL Connection Manager. http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sqlintegrationservices/thread/e14fc081-b7bf-44c7-a107-c283aee36f98 After you modify this connection property, if you see another error like this.. Please refer to this http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/da-DK/vsto/thread/43d6b544-7172-4fe7-babf-a541e5f6a1c9 to download the provider driver. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13255 If you didn't see this error, so you needn't to install this driver. Please vote if it's helpful and mark it as an answer!
