Creating a new attribute
Steps to create a new attribute in ILM2007 - go to metaverse designer and add it under the appropriate object type. Steps to create a new attribute in FIM2010 - 1. Go to Administration // Schema Management // click All Attributes // Click New and follow the wizard (example is create attribute SSN) 2. Select All Bindings // Click New and follow the wizard - ex: Resource Type = User, Attribute Type = SSN, click Finish 3. From a command prompt on the server, run IISRESET 4. Browse back to your Synchronization Rules and edit one of them. Go to Inbound Attribute Flow // select New Attribute Flow // select a source attribute from your MA // Click Destination // Select the new attribute you just created. Oops, it doesn't exist. Some posts on this site suggested adding step 2a - modify the MPRs: "Administrator: Administrators can read and update Users" and "Synchronization: Synchronization account controls users it synchronizes" to add the new attribute or select All Attributes. But this doesn't change my outcome - I still cannot see the attribute in the list of destination attributes. What am I missing?

Slightly confused here, what are you trying to accomplish? Is it that you have a new attribute in the FIM Service that you wish to populate through the FIM Portal UI and have manifested in external systems? When you say 'to create a new attribute in ILM2007', I'm assuming you mean the FIM 2010 Sync Service & that you have created your new attribute in the metaverse schema.. If all is ok, you will be able to select the destination metaverse attribute in your ISR. In order to flow the attribute from the FIM Service into the sync engine, you will have to refresh the schema on the FIM Service MA and define your import attribute flow.

The IIS reset is not required. The MPR's are absolutely required. At least the one for the Synchronization Engine. I think you need to open the synchronization manager: right click the FIM service MA Chose refresh schema provide password Edit FIM service MA properties Select the new attribute on the attribute selection Configure any attribute flows required for the new attribute http://setspn.blogspot.com

What you need to do is to refres the FIM Management Agent Schema. Regards

Answer: With certain portions of synch management moved into the Portal, and with no guide as to exactly what's changed, I was trying to extend the MV schema by extending the FIM Schema. After refreshing the FIM MA and seeing the attributes show up on the FIM side, I realized that they were separate. Therefore the answer is that Inbound Attribute Flows go to the MetaVerse, and therefore the schema has to be extended from the Sync Engine. As soon as that's done, the Portal looks at the MV attributes live. When creating the Inbound Attribute Flow, that's stored in the Portal and has to be Imported to the MV for the MA to get updated. The steps in the question above are accurate for adding an attribute to the portal only. Thanks for everyone's advice.
