Creating Pie chart webpart from Lists

Hi,

I have a Requirement List with Requirement title, Client , Project, Priority and date created as columns.

Priority is a Choice column with RED/AMBER/GREEN choices.

I want to create a pie chart out of this list showing RED/AMBER/GREEN slices.

I tried using chart webpart. One thing is my Y axis is always Date created column and I don't have option to change. Also I tried selecting Requirement title as X axis and grouped by Priority. But I am not getting the desired graph.

What needs to be done? Am I missing anything?

Be careful that the charts web part has been removed in sharepoint 2013.

If you are planning an upgrade to sp2013 anytime soon, then you will have a problem because chart webpart will be gone.

now Microsoft tells you to use Excel Services but I think that very heavy weight and has licensing and cost implications.

you have two options

1. If you think that you will be doing lots of charts and reports, then use SSRS and use SPList as the data source.

2. If you are not doing a lot of charts and reports and this is a one off requirement. then use data view webpart and jquery charts plugin

The second option has no licensing or cost implication but is a little more work to do.
