Creating And executing ssis packages programatically on the application server.do we need a sql server licence for the application server?
Hi, In my application we are creating and executing ssis packages from the application. I think we need ssis run time and design time dll's on the application server as the application creates the packages on the fly. my question for distributing the required ssis dll's as part of my application installation.do we need to purchase a sql server licence for the application server? Hi, I am not using dtsexec util on my application server. This is what my application server does. it creates a package and uploads the package to sql srver msdb database and cretaes a job to execute the package and runs the job. Application server and database server are hosted separately. do i need to buy a sql srver licence for the application server? Vinay Valeti

Yes - to run packages outside of the designer, you need to have SSIS installed on the machine (not just the BIDS components). ThanksLet us TRY this | Dont forget to mark the post(s) that answered your question

That is an interesting question - you should probably inquire with Microsoft directly. As I interpret it, no, you do not need a SQL Server license on the machine that is constructing the SSIS packages - as you're not executing the package there. However, it is possible that even using the API requires a license. If that is the case, I would ask Microsoft if a Developer license would do - as that's what that computer would actually be doing - developing packages, not executing them. But I would definitely inquire directly to Microsoft Licensing...
