Create task in Sharepoint through E-mail
Hi, I am using SharePoint 2007. Is it possible to create a new task automatically through e-mail. If the user sends a mail to the sharepoint configured incoming e-mail address, is it possible to create a task/list based on that. Subject of e-mail may be the name of the item in the list and content of e-mail the description. Thank you

Try creating a task list with incoming email enabled. Email the list, when the item is created have a workflow kick off that updates the current item and assigns the task. Jeff Holliday, MCTS - Solutions Architect - Portals and Collaboration - Ensynch, Inc

Hi, I have a custom list. So in that, there is no Incoming email settings. I googled and found this: 1. Create a class that inherits from SPEmailEventReceiver 2. Override EmailReceived method, and implement your own logic on how to process the email. 3. Create the xml that defines the event, specifying the ListTemplateId, and the type of event (EmailReceived) to attach this event receiver to (among other xml element you need to define) 4. Create the feature definition 5. Deploy! And you will then notice that incoming email link will appear in the list settings. But I am not sure of doing these steps. Could you please help me in this. Thank you

Venkatzeus, you are going to have to try to do some things on your own. You can't just ask people here to tell you every single step. You found the steps, so you should go try them. Are you a SharePoint developer? If so, then go write the code. If you're not a developer at all, then people can't just tell you every single step to create that custom ability. Why do you have a custom list if it's supposed to be a task list, and why do you need to start the process with an email? Why do you not have a task list that is connected to Outlook with a 2-way sync?SharePoint Architect || Microsoft MVP || My Blog

Clayton Cobb, I have a doubt. Please excuse me, if the question is too simple. As you know, I have a custom list. I was thinking of creating a document library, which will have the incoming mail settings, and then creating a datasource for document library to the Custom list, so that contents of the document library can be stored in a custom list. Will this approach work? I am learning sharepoint now. That is the reason, I asked earlier how to perform the task. I wont be asking such questions anymore.

I am sorry Clayton, but your reply seems to be extremely harsh. I am not a developer and I was trying to find out if it was at all possible to create a task through email. Finding your nasty comment really put me off. I hope other Microsoft MVPs are kinder than you are.
