Create an external content type to connect to Oracle database

Hi Everybody!

I wanna to create a column in a sharepoint list to show one field of an ORACLE database. so at first I should find a way to connect to Oracle DB by external content types. I prefer data in my list will be online. Did you have any suggestion???

I am thinking on a solution that I don't know is it true and implementable or not! I create a database in my sql server, connect to oracle database, put the data in my sql server DB and then create an sql content type to use this data in my sharepoint list column. Any idea??

Thanks in advanced!

You can create a BCS model that will connect directly to the Oracle database, but you can't do it in SPD.  The easiest way to do it would be to use a third party tool like BCSMetaMan.  Here's an article that explains how.

No, BCSmetaman (newer version of BDCmetaman) is a third party product, but I think you can get a trial version to see if it will help you with what you want to do.  It also has a Visual Studio connector that you can use in VS 2012.  Take a look at the demos on the following site.
