Create a collection for build and capture TS only

Hi,

I'm pretty familiar with SCCM 2012 OSD but I think I still miss some basic thing to solve this

I have a reference virtual machine (VMWare) for Build and capture purposes.

what I want is this machine only to have the deployment for Build and Capture task sequence I configured

so I tried to create a new collection and add a query membership of the VMWare's MAC address - unfortunately I get "No task sequences are assigned"

I tried to use Add Computer and added a new resource with the computer's MAC address to this collection - still! can't get the task sequence

so the only thing that worked so far was to deploy this TS for all unknown computers, which works immediately and then disable the TS.

any ideas what's the best way to make this happen as expected?  thanks!

Is the device in the collection?  If not what's the limiting collection? Could it be one that requires the computer to have a client installed such as All Servers or All Desktops?

Did you assign a static MAC address to the NIC?

The limit collection is All Systems

when I use the MAC Address query - I don't see it. obviously, because it's a new computer.

when I use the Import Computer method - I see it, but it doesn't affect at all on the VM machine.

and yes. of course it's a static MAC address

How does the query look like?

Hello,

See it where? Under Devices, under All Systems or in your intended installation Collection?

When you import a computer object, it should immediately show up under Devices, but is All Systems has not yet re-evaluated, then your installation Collection will have no way of picking the system up.

You should be able to see the system in your install Collection if:

  • You have imported the system to ConfigMgr
  • Allowed the All Systems to re-evaluate
  • Added the system to the installation Collection
  • Limited the Collection to All Systems

Then, of course, the Deployment itself needs to be available for Media and PXE.

I have been doing same stuff, I create new Computer record manually only for Capture purposes By specifying manually the MAC adress.

Ive seen, that quick steps for adding this Computer record to collection takes too much time, or isnt added at all. So I always add the record only By using Collection Membership.

Hi

I'm not sure what was my problem,

but anyway what I did was using the "Add Computer" and add it to All Systems

and only after I saw in in All Systems I added it to the existing collection named "Capture TS"

it worked.

thanks anyone for your help
