Create Task Sequence Standalone media help required

Hi,

Environment is SCCM 2012 SP1

I have a Win 8.1 & Win7 OS image captured from reference machine and able to deploy to machines without any issues using TS.

Now I am trying to create Standalone media in USB/DVD.

1. I am able to create .iso file when I select 8.5GB DVD type in the wizard. What steps should I perform to burn it to DVD? The normal burn from .iso does not work as it does not make it bootable.

2. When I tried to create a USB standalone media it errors out indicating Not enough space on disk. The USB is 16GB of size and the Createmedia.exe formats the USB to FAT32. Hence, the install image does not get copied.

Please advice.

1. The .iso should be bootable, it sounds like you have a seperate issue. I would recommend USB for stand-alone media, its much easier to work with if you are creating media > 8GB.

2. Format the USB stick as NTFS, not FAT32. If your .wim is larger than 4GB it will not work with FAT32.

Typically when we create our stand-alone media we create an .iso and then extract the .iso onto a USB drive we formatted beforehand as NTFS. Works great and we have been using it this way for over 2 years.

I was able to create a bootable USB. I am still unable to create bootable DVD.

Once the iso is created, I right click and send to DVD. It performs the burning operation but does not make it a bootable. Please suggest..

If you mount the .iso in Hyper-V or some other virtual environment, does it boot fine?

Unfortunately, I am unable to test the VM functionality due to restrictions to create a VM.

Is there no other way to test or find steps to create a bootable DVD created from this iso?

All guides to create task sequence media ends to the step where it says burn the iso to dvd. No steps to actually tell how to make it bootable.

Below are the files in the iso..

Thats the thing, the .iso should already be bootable. There is no guides online because it's not necessary.

Your files look identical to what my extracted media has.
