Create Site working though Central Admin but not using STSADM. Error generated: Invalid password
I'm able to create a web application through Central Administration. However when I try doing the same using the STSAdmin command I"m getting an error: "The password supplied with the username xxx/xxx was not correct. Verify that it was entered correctly and try again.". The password entered is correct. What can I do to fix this issue? Any help is appriciated.

The only advice I can give you is to ensure that the password is correct. Many times, a lower case "L" looks like a number "1" etc. I trust that answers your question... Thanks C http://www.cjvandyk.com/blog

Hi, Did you use Extendvs operation to create your web application? If yes, please note: The account that you use to run the Stsadm command-line tool must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer. Because this operation affects a content or configuration database, you must also be a member of the following fixed server roles in SQL Server: dbcreator. If no, please give the detail information about what command you use. Hope it is helpful!Seven

Thanks for your answer Seven. Yes I use Extendvs to create the web application. And yes the account is a member of the admin group and SQL server dbcreator. I'm quite puzzled by such behavior. I started noticing this behavior shortly after a password change which appeared to be successful as everything else runs quite fine with the new password. And as I said from Central Admin, I'm able to create/extend a web application.

Hi, For databaseuser and databasepassword, apidlogin and apidpwd parameters, please make sure both of them are matching. You’d better read the detail instruction about these parameters from here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263040(office.12).aspx One more thing to note: “The account that you use to run the Stsadm command-line tool must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer” means this account should be your local administrator in your server not just a farm administrator. Hope it is helpful! Seven
