Create Package Template
Hi, I'm wanting to create a package template which will include all of my standard variables, connections etc.I found some info on how to do this at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908018however, it tells me to save a package to the following directory - drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\ProjectItems\DataTransformationProject\DataTransformationItemsMy machine does not contain the last three directories: ProjectItems\DataTransformationProject\DataTransformationItemsI created them and saved my package to the directory.I then followed the instructions (on the site linked to above) - by selecting add item, my template is suppossed to be displayed under the Visual Studio installed templates header - it is not.Can anyone help?

The above location should be present. Are you checking in correct drive? You said"I created them and saved my package to the directory." Where are you saving the template package?Nitesh Rai- Please mark the post as answered if it answers your question

Thanks for your response Nitesh,When i attempted to save my template package to the directory below - i was unable to as the last threedirectories of the path were not available i.e. i was able to navigate down to PrivateAssemblies - this PrivateAssemblies directory contained only one sub-directory - 1033 - i then created the additional three directories and saved my package template to the DataTransformationItems directory - as stated in previous query, this did not work.C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\ProjectItems\DataTransformationProject\DataTransformationItemsIn a second attempt to resolve the issue - I have assumed that Visual Studio stores the default Package.dtsx in the file system somewhere and that if i locate that directory, i could store my template along with it. There is no Package.dtsx under my Program Files directory. If I search for Package.dtsx on C drive i come up with several - mostly under my documents\microsoft press... i have several books installed on my machine.

Hi Clay,If you're using SQL Server 2008 or later, this directory would be c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\... . SQL Server 2005 is based on Visual Studio 2005 which is in the Microsoft Visual Studio 8 directory, whereas SQL Server 2008 is based on Visual Studio 2008 which is in the Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0 directory. This would probably explain why you couldn't find the ProjectItems directory. Also if you're on an x86 installation if Windows, you'd need to look in Program Files (x86), not Program Files.-David
