Crawling AD Groups. Only picking up some.
When I run a full import from the User Profiles and Properties page I do not get all the groups imported. Some of them get crawled correctly:spsimport://***************?$$dl$$?cn=wgs econo...CrawledAnd others get the following message:spsimport://**************?$$dl$$?cn=wgs stude...Crawled (The directory property cannot be found in the cache. )Im not sure if this is related, but the Audience targetting isnt appearing. Even though when you go to add a AD Group as the target audience it finds it, it doesnt actually show the item (webpart/navigation).Ok I checked this just a moment ago, and even adding myself to the groups that have been crawled correctly doesnt seem to show up and audience targetting webparts/navigation items. Even after doing another full crawl of the AD.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Shaun Rudge.

Hi Shaun, When you configure audience for a web part, you can choose from three kinds of audience groups: Global Audiences, Distribution/Security Groups and SharePoint Group. If you didnt create any Audiences rule in SSP Configuration and just choose a group existed in AD, then you can add the AD group directly. You dont need to do the profile import as SharePoint can get the user information of the group from AD. If you define the audience through user profile properties such as all users with department IT which is defined in AD, then you need to import user profile just like this article did: http://grounding.co.za/blogs/neil/archive/2008/01/29/audience-targeting-in-sharepoint.aspx You mentioned that you just added an AD group in the audience option of a web part. If so, the import error doesnt have relationship with your issue. By default even if you dont do full import, you can still add the AD group to the audience. Thats why when yourself user account is imported successfully, the issue is still there. You said that some groups are imported successfully and some are not. Please go to View import connections to check the user filter and change the syntax to below: (|(objectCategory=group)(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user))) And select Subtree in the Scope. Then do a full import to see if it works. Regarding the audience issue, please check the permission of this web part to ensure that the group you added has at least read permission to this web part. If you have not installed SP2, I suggest you install SP2 and the latest update for MOSS. Hope this helps. Lu Zou

Check on your last successful full crawl. You might need to reset and re run another Full Crawl then run another full import. Good luck Just Another Tech2
