Could not load type 'Microsoft.AnalysisServices.SPAddi n.DataRefresh.ViewDataRefreshHisto ry'

After working properly for some time, I recently started encountering Could not load type
'Microsoft.AnalysisServices.SPAddin.DataRefresh.ViewDataRefreshHistory' when attempting to access Manage PowerPivot Data Refresh from a library containing excel spreadsheets with power pivot tables. If I reboot the sharepoint server, the error clears and I am able to access the page. Then after some lapse of time which I have not determined, the failure occurs again. SharePoint is able to refresh the spreadsheets, but will not let me see the configuration page for the spreadsheets.

Does anyone know a solution for this or why it is occurring?

environment is sp2013 sp1 enterprise, farm, sql server 2012 r2.

ps - restarting sql server and iis does not clear the problem. nor does rebooting the sharepoint wfe server, contrary to previous statements.

For those interested, the full message captured by uls is:

Hi tony,

As my understanding, you got an error when you access Manage PowerPivot Data Refresh.

Please go to IIS manager, make sure all application pools is started well.

Check the solutions (Central Admin > System Settings > Manage farm solution) and confirm both powerpivotfarm.wsp and powerpivotwebapp.wsp are both deployed.

Retract both solutions and then repair the SQL installation for POWERPIVOT instance (Control Panel > Programs and Features, select SQL Server. During the repair process, select the instance for POWERPIVOT).

Deploy the two solutions, and deploy the powerpivotwebapp.wsp a second time to include Central Admin. Then try to add the service application again, test again, compare the result.

As I am not familar with PowerPivot and Microsoft has a dedicated forum for "PowerPivot for SharePoint", I suggest you create a new thread on this forum. The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. Thank you for your understanding.
