Hi, I've managed to get SharePoint 2007 to corrupt the document properties of Word 97-02 documents. I think the document parser has a bug in it. To cause the corruption... 1) Open Microsoft Word (I'm using 2007) 2) Create a custom text document property called "TestName", with the value "TestValue". 3) Save the document as a Word 97-03 document 4) If you view the custom properties via explorer, it should just contain one property called "TestName". 5) Create a document library, with a "single line of text" column called "TestName". 6) Upload and download the document. 7) View the custom properties via explorer. Now it contains an additional custom field called "ContentType" 8) Back in the document library, edit the "TestName" property of the document to "NewValue" 9) Download the document. View the document properties again in explorer, has a corrupt value for "TestName". Is this a known issue with SharePoint, is there a workaround / or fix? Thanks, Gary.

Hi Gary,It most look like a bug mentioned in the Kb article:958852 and workaround to this problem is to check out the file from the document library and remove the custom property that has the same name as the built-in property. Thanks Yogesh - looks like your correct. I was writing a utility to migrate content from a legacy system containing 1000s of documents. Looks like I'll get errors if the custom / built-in properties clash. :(

I have many word docs on my PC, but several weeks ago I lost some of them. Perhaps only today I have dug up a suitable determination at the Inet, this tool would usable here as well - how to repair corrupted word document.
