Copy and Paste Output Column Definitions OR change script component language
I can't believe I just did this. I created a script component, named and set metadata for about 400 output columns, then forgot to choose my script language type. Hours and hours of work down the drain. My code is in VB, and because I did not write it I don't feel up to the chore of converting to C#. How can I either copy the output column definitions to a new script component OR change the language? It seems ridiculous that neither can be done. Surely I'm not the first person to have this need.

Hello Orange Crush, my understanding you need to convert your code to C#, then how about using one of the language conversion tools? E.g. http://www.developerfusion.com/tools/convert/vb-to-csharp/Arthur My Blog

It's not my code, so converting it is not an option. I've found numerous posts on how to change the default scripting language, so I shouldn't make this mistake again. This problem shouldn't exist. I can't imagine how a data integration tool could not have column definition copy & paste functionality. Changing the scripting language does change assemblies and folders and such, but at the very least there should be a "delete script" option that allows you to get rid the existing script and start over with a new one. I'm deleting the script component, going outside to scream a little, then beginning the tast of re-entering all 400+ column definitions. (Not arguing with ya, dude. I'm just a tad irked that my morning was wasted).

The Script Component has it's downsides :-( , but what does your script with > 400 output columns do? Maybe there is an other solution? Please mark the post as answered if it answers your question | My SSIS Blog: http://microsoft-ssis.blogspot.com
