Copy MOSS Farm to test 2010 in-place Upgrade
We have an existing MOSS-2007 farm that includes 3 servers: WFE - SharePoint (2007, SP2) / PerformancePoint (2007) SSRS - SharePoint Integrated Report Server (2008, SP1) SQL - SQL-Server 2005 (SP3) database backend There are 3 relatively small / simple site collections in the farm. What we'd like to do is make a copy of this farm to a single server with SQL-Server on it so that we can test the SharePoint 2010 in-place upgrade. I found a post that seems to provide a simple way to accomplish this here. In a nutshell, it appears that we could use the STSADM "catastrophic backup" operation to back up the production farm and "catastrophic restore" to restore it to another farm that's been set up but not configured. If I use the "-restoremethod new" option I think this will accomplish out objective, but I have several questions: Will the restore prompt me for new URLs for the sites? I want to make sure that I don't cause problems with my production environment!!! Will PerformancePoint be included in the backup / restore or will I have to do something else to address PPS? What about SSRS? It's installed / configured in SharePoint Integrated mode - do I have to restore this separately and, if so, should I do this before or after the restore? I'll want to use a different set of service accounts to help ensure that there is no "cross-contamination" between TEST and PROD. I'll use our testSetup account to do the restore in the new farm, but I presume I'll need to go through central admin (or use STSADM) to change the other services accounts used by application pools, etc. Thanks! PerformancePoint and SSRS won't be included. You'll have to install these separately after SharePoint.Wahid Saleemi Sr. Consultant, Avanade http://www.wahidsaleemi.com
