We are having a problem with SteadyState's inability to delete cookies and completely clear temporary internet files in-between users using a locked profile. We haveour libraryPCs set up to auto-logon, then the patron logs into the client on our PC reservation system, by Envisionware. The custom logon is not the issue.The problem comes when a library patron uses their Yahoo or Hotmail account. They don't always log off of their account and close the browser. Theoretically, closing the browser should clear the files if the setting "Empty theTemporary Internet Files folder when Internet Explorer is closed" worked, but it absolutely does not. But even if they close the browser, when the next patron comes along and goes to Yahoo or Hotmail, they are automatically logged in to the previous patrons account! I believe it has to do with cookies saved in the Adobe\Flashplayer folder. This is a disaster, as we had one patron complain that someone sent a threatening email to someone in their contacts list. They ended up calling the police and it was quite a big deal.We've tried to reboot in-between patrons to be sure WDP cleared up the temporary <username> profile, but that just creates another problem. Patrons feel jilted on their "right" to use their full 60-minute allotment, and we hear nothing but complaints.Looking into this, I can see that not all cookies and temporary internet files are deleted if you only logout/login. What is the workaround?CCC

Wow, that doesn't sound promising. We are looking at switching to envisionware for our small lab. I never have noticed the option you mention not work. Maybe unlock the profile, and switch to the "no restrictions" option, than go into the profile, switch the settings to keep pages in at zero days, delete all the cookies at this point, go back in to Steady State, restore your settings, lock the profile down again, and do a test to see if "Empty the Temporary Internet Files folder" option is working the way it should. I have done all that (and numerous other things) with no success. BTW, Envisionware doesn't have anything to do with this problem, just so you know. Itcan do several things SS does, such as locking task manager, but we use SS to do that. I failed to mention above that Envisionware does log the patron out after each user, so I do know that theoretically the <username> profile should be overwritten each time by the <username>.orig (mandatory, or master) profile. That is, everything except cookies and temporary internet files. I know for a fact that the desktop (I've allowed saving to the desktop but blocked the C: drive in group policy) and My Documents folders get cleared on logout/login. Luckily, everything is cleared once a day when we shut down and turn back on in the morning.I will keep watching the forums. I am not sure if they still use Steady State or not, but I did describe the problem your having, and as soon as he gives me answer one way or the other I will post here again. I've had an epiphany! In this veryforum, I've finallyfound several discussions on the topic. For some reason, they failed to be listed the first few times I searched for 'cookies' after the forummigrated.(I probably needed to clear out my cookies.) But now I've found several discussions involving Shawn Shaofrom Microsoft --In a topic entitled Cookies and SteadyState Shawn suggests downloading the User Profile Hive cleanup service.Honestly, I thoughtI had previously done that on my master image because the old Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit required it. But, no, I hadn't onmy image that I'm using on 45 PCs. My mistake. I've now loaded it onto all public access computers -- lo and behold, it works! The only crumb left behind after a user logs out is located under C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\local settings\temp\google toolbar. All other cookies, temp files and temporary internet files are totally gone!My suggestion for Microsoft: Please slipstream the UPH Cleanup Serviceinto the SS installer.By the way James, we have not moved "from" SteadyState "to" Envisionware, we use both. They are two entirely different products. SS is for securing the PC, Envisionware is just for scheduling, or PC management. Hi Chris, I realize they are separate products, what I meant is the fellow in Salinas was using Steady State and a manual sign up system. They started Envisionware not too long ago, I am not sure they use their Envisionware in conjunction with SS, or not. We just use SS with a manual sign up sheet at the circulation desk. Sorry to resurrect this, but this is giving me quite the nasty headache. I have downloaded and installed the UPH Cleanup Service to 60 of the PCs here in the middle school lab that I administrate. After some time of internet explorer usage, I still notice that temporary internet files are not deleted. I know this since I get the "Windows cannot copy blah blah blah etc" error message which forces me to login as administrator and manually delete the files myself. I have checked services and it is indeed started, so I have no clue as to why it doesn't work. I even have the children shutdown the computers properly. Any clue as to why it's not working for me? I'm getting tired of having to manually delete those files myself.

Just to add this is becoming a big problem for us using this on around 100 loan laptops.Fine when you can log in and manually delete (i have created a script to delete all the files) but if laptop loaned out then students can sort it themselves.I have the UPH Cleanup service running too but still happens regularly.Are there any planned updates to steadystate?
