Content not displayed in Report Manager 2008
All,
I have created some reports in SSRS 2008 and after that deployed it successfully to RM. But when I log in through Repor manager URL, no content is displayed over there on Home page even if it showed report deployed successfully from VS.
To me it seems dont have sufficient privileges even if i am admin on my machine. Any idea?

Hi Gaurav,
Settings is not displayed at top right most corner. I can see only these options over there:- Home, My Subscriptions, Help
No other contents are displayed.
And I am deploying to the same URL as is listed in Report Configuration Manager. i.e. http://myPCname/ReportServer
However, from VS it is displaying that it Deployed Successfully, only if I start VS using "Run as Administrator" otherwise it is complaining that I dont have sufficient privilege.
To me it seems, for report manager also it is having access problem. You know anything I can run Report Manager as an admin. Any special setting for it?

I think I made a mistake changing it from Local Service to Local System. (while again change it back to the Local Service account it is asking for some system password which I dont have.)
Now I am not able to even deploy the report. Getting the above mentioned error in both VS and Report Manager:-
The report server cannot decrypt the symmetric key that is used to access sensitive or encrypted data in a report server database. You must either restore a
backup key or delete all encrypted content. (rsReportServerDisabled)
Please guide me to the correct path if anyone has idea about it.
Thanks,

Hi Gaurav,
I was able to get rid of the above mentioned error by deleting encryption keys from report configuration manager.
But am back to the same original problem as in the very first post. (you can ignore the other posts by me stating about the above error)
The original problem is still there- in Report Manager it is not displaying any contents.
Do you have any suggestions for the same?

Hi T,
Please run the Internet Explorer as administrator to resolve the issue. This issue is due to User Account Control(UAC) in Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2, Microsoft Windows Vista and Microsoft Windows 7.
Or, please follow the article below to solve the issue:
How to: Configure a Report Server for Local Administration on Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 (UAC):
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb630430.aspx
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Hi Jin,
The above article link you gave is for Vista and Windows Server 2008.
Do you have similar for Windows 7 : how to configure local report server administration on Windows 7.
I also tried to disable User Account Control (UAC) but that also didn/t help.

Upon using Web Service URL it gives an error, below:-
Reporting Services Error
The permissions granted to user 'TEJ-PC\TEJ' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)

Hi T,
The last message "The permissions granted to user 'TEJ-PC\TEJ' are insufficient for performing this operation" you posted is generally caused by UAC or the account are insufficient for accessing the report server.
So, please try to fix the issue in this way:
Logon the report server machine with a local administrator account(By default, the local administrators are the content manager in the report server).
Run IE as administrator. Open the Report Manager. This time, you may be able to see the "Site Settings" and "Properties" Click "Site Settings" to add "TEJ" as a content manager. Click "Properties" to add "TEJ" as a Content Manager too.
Thanks,

Hi Jin,
Everything is on my local computer only. i.e. no separate report server on diff machine. all is on one machine only report server , manager , VS etc.
And I am having admin rights only on my machine.
So, in above steps given by you, opening report manager from IE (run as an admin) still does not display "Site Settings" and "Properties" because effectively we haven/t done anything i.e. changing of any settings so its the same issue existing still there.

Hi T,
Had you even removed the local administrators from the Report Server? If there is no default "System Administrators" in the Report Server, we will no longer able to manager the report server, unless we have added another account to the Report Server as "System
Administrators".
Now, please try to use the SQL Server Management Studio(SSMS) to connect to the Report Server, and check what happens.
Also, please check if any error in the Report Server error logs.
Thanks,

HI Jin,
I think you misinterpreted my last post.
Firstly, I have not removed anything (i.e. local administrators) from the report server.
Secondly, using SSMS I am able to connect to the Reporting Services. Therein, under Security folder "Roles" and "System Roles" folders are displayed. But I am not able to add any New Role in this folders. for ex., right click-> Content Manager role ->
New Role option is disabled. And same thing for all other roles. This forced me to think of below possibility.
--About SQL 2008 installation that I have on my laptop. I have downloaded it from Microsoft Dreamspark website (SQL Server 2008 : Developer Edition) Do you think because of this installation I have restricted access to Reporting Services (i.e. Report Manager)
I am not sure but now I can think of this possibility as well. What do you think?

Hi Jin,
I have only one account on my name as administrator. Don't have any other account for the same.
Also, you think this issue could be because of Developer Edition of SQL 2008 as I mentioned in last post.

Hi T,
Based on the live session, we can know the issue is caused by RSWindowsNegotiate authentication. RSWindowsNegotiate may require a valid Service Principl Name(SPN), however, in this case, the server is an a workgroup, no SPN valid. That is why the issue occurred.
To solve the issue, please comment the <RSWindowsNegotiate/> from the rsreprotserver.config.
For more information about authentication in SSRS, please see:

If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.
