Content Type Security
Is it possible to set security by content type? Meaning, I have a set of Templates that will be viewed by all employees however I a small set of Templetes that need to be visable by upper management. The documents that will be viewed by upper management will have different meta data associated with it and therefor will need to have different security. My environment is as follows:
WSS 3.0
Windows 2003 Server
SQL Server 2005
Any thoughts is appreciated!

Hello,
Unfortunately, you will not be able to configure permissions at the content type level.
What are you referring to when you say "templates" ? List templates? The List Template Gallery and Site Template Gallery are just lists. You can configure permissions so that your users would not be able to see the list or site templates you are working with.Chris Caravajal MCTS SharePoint Help

You could write an event handler that broke item level security everytime a certain content type was added.
The security would then be set such that only the upper management group could have access to it.Kevin

Thanks for your reply. When say Templates, I mean documents. C# Developer

If you want to give permissions on ur content you will create 2 library with different templates and add permissions on that template. If want to edit the template using content types(think you know that) in content type advance settings insert template.
