Consolidate alerts into single alert and run tasks before send alert
Hi there, We are monitoring 20 servers for a client and we got this hearbeat failure alert from 20 servers when their internet connection is down. Is it possbile to consolidate this 20 heartbeat alert into single heartbeat alert? Also is it possbile to get SCOM to run some tasks before send out a alert? e.g. when there's heartbeat alert, we get SCOM to run internet connection test from management server to ensure that it's not internet connection problem at our end, and then sent out the alert. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Winnie

To stop the flood, I'd suggest implemented what I'll call 'automated branch office maintenance mode' to put the group of computers into maintenance when the connection is detected as down. Consolidating HB alerts from many to one is not going to be possible due to the way the HB alert is authored. This would require a custom implementation. The same goes for custom actions before alert generation of HB alerts. This is highly advanced authoring, but I've seen this done very well in the past. You might find some examples here: http://scomskills.com/blog/HTH, Jonathan Almquist - MSFT

I've seen this article (ross-family.org) linked many times in response to this issue, but unfortunately the link is dead. Does anyone have a copy of the solution that is proposed in that blog post?
