Custom lists do not support the connect to Outlook option. I would create a list using the Contacts list and then customise that to suit your needs. Not sure if you can add the Outlook integration to a custom list - maybe someone else here has
achieved this?SharePoint Administrator and MCTS | SharePoint Fan www.davepyett.wordpress.com - Follow me on twitter:

Hi,
Make sure you have installed outlook 2003/2007/2010 and enabled the SharePoint Stssync handler add-on control.
To enabled the SharePoint Stssync handler add-on, please:
1.
Go to
Tools -> Manage Add-ons -> Enable or disable Add-ons
2.
Look for
SharePoint Stssync Handler and disable the add-on.
Restart Internet Explorer
Go to
Tools -> Manage Add-ons -> Enable or disable Add-ons
Enable the add-on.
In addition, Dave, not all custom lists doesn’t support
connect to outlook option.
Hope it is helpful!Seven

I made exactly the same. But i need it time to time, and all the recreation stage is a time eater.
Besides we had a list that was originally based on contacts template and eventually "Connect to Outlook" just dissapeared. I never managed to know why.

You need to create multiple contact lists? If so, save your customised contacts list as a template. Then when you need another one, create it from the template and copy in your contacts.SharePoint Administrator and MCTS | SharePoint Fan www.davepyett.wordpress.com - Follow me on twitter:
