Configuring Notifications - to include specific alerts from specific groups and classes
Thats correct - it is a tedious process and for groups but because the health service and the computer classes are unrelated you need to add both to the group manually. You are basically doing manually what Kevin does dynamically but Kevins way
only works if you can populate the group dynamically based on name and that is not always possible.
Good Luck - let us know how it goes.
Cheers

Graham, that worked great!
Finally... we went a long time without getting heartbeat alerts.

Instead of adding to the thread I already had I figured I'd start a new one, and save everyone from having to read what's already been written there.
In this blog by Kevin Holman it talks about how to configure a group for use with email alerts
for specific groups and classes.
I did something similar but found it doesn't work for heartbeat alerts. I created groups that use explicit members (screenshot below), he uses dynamic members, pointing to the computer's NetBIOS name.
According to the blog, I need to add the Health Service Watcher, to get the heartbeat alerts.
I would prefer to leave my Explicit Members and then add the Health Service Watcher. But I don't see how to add that, using the instructions from the blog. I'd rather not use his method of using the NetBIOS names, because I have close to a dozen
groups already created using Explicit Members for the server names.
How can I use my method and add the Health Service Watcher?

Hi
In Add \ Remove objects, add health service watchers that are associated with the windows objects that are already there. You would need to explicitly add each health service (you can't just say, add all health service watchers of the windows
objects already there - that is why Kevin went for the dynamic approach).
Hope it makes sense.
Cheers

Try the group with this as member
1. HealthServerWatcherGroup/Microsoft.systemCenter.agentwatcherGroup
2. HealthServerWatcherGroup/Microsoft.systemCenter.CollectionManagementServerGroup

So I would do this?
- click on Add/Remove
- under the "Search for" drop-down pick "Health Service Watcher"
- in Filter type the name of a server that I have for that group and click Search. Repeat that for each server in the group?
Ok, that's a little time consuming, but I'm guessing it's quicker than starting over completely and using Kevin's method.
I'll give that a try and post back here.
