Configuration Wizard files
Dear All, Q: What no. of files does SharePoint create when a SharePoint configuration wizard runs? Also, In case a configuration wizard fails. Is it possible that we can replace files from a running SharePoint Set-up with a faulty one? If yes, what are the pros and cons to it? Looking forward for your feedback. FSJ

Hi, afaik the configuration wizard does not create any files on an existing SharePoint server. The files required for SharePoint hould already be created before running the configuration wizard. The wizard only changes permission settings on certain files. The configuration wizard is actually in charge of creating and updating the required databases on the database server. The only exception to this is when you are running the configuration wizard to add a server to an existing farm. In that case the configuration wizard will provision the existing web applications on the server and therefore create the IIS sites and files for these sites. Additionally it will allso deploy all the solution (wsp packages) to the web server and potentially deploy files required for features packages in the wsp file to the 12-hive. Copying the SharePoint 12-hive for example from a running SharePoint server will not guarantuee that the server configuration wizard will succeed when it previously failed on you. It depends on the reason why it failed. Dirk Van den Berghe
