Configuration Wizard Failing on Step 5

We are trying to configure Sharepoint 2010 on our R2 machine. Every time we try to run the Configuration Wizard we run into an error on step 5.

After checking the logs, the following was found:

An exception of type System.InvalidOperationException was thrown.  Additional exception information: Cannot start service c2wts on computer '.'.
System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot start service c2wts on computer '.'. ---> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: %1 is not a valid Win32 application

I have seen a number of similar issues regarding the c2wts service, but most of those have been related to timing out issues. If anyone has any advice on how to get past this problem, it would be appreciated.

The link that you provided details a case where the c2wts service is timing out, which we are not experiencing. We have .NET Framework 4 installed and we are connected to the internet, which are the solutions provided in that thread.

Hello RedwoodDave,

Do you have .NET 3.5 installed on the machine? It is a requirement for SP2010.

Besides .NET 3.5, here are some other options you can consider:

There could also be a problem with .NET framework. You can try to repair/reinstall.

Does the machine satisfy hardware and software requirements for SP2010?

Did you install prerequisites?

Do you have any Antivirus programs running? You can turn it off and try again.

You can also try to run sfc /scannow. SFC tool will indicate whether or not it found any problems and able to fix them.

Here is more information about sfc/scannow

Thank you
