Configuration Failed - Mssql$OfficeServers
I have the same error as others on this board but my configuration is different:My OS is Windows 2008 Server R2 and I am installing Sharpoint 2007 Server as a stand-alone. In the registry under "HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Shared Tools/Web Server Extensions/12.0/WSS/ServerRole" it is showing -SingleServer"I have a copy of sql server 2008, can I install it and disable something to forget about Sql Express?thanks in advance.

A Standalone Installation installs SQL Express or WID... Note: There is no direct upgrade from a stand-alone installation to a farm installation. That said there is a pretty good article on a Simple Farm deployment.... http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262243.aspx. The difference is you have a lot more control... When installing choose complete and once CA (Central Administration) is up you will need to configure the Services, Web Applications, etc... to host your SharedServices Provider, Portal and MySites... I uninstalled and re-installed Sharepoint 2007 Server this time using the 'ADVANCED' page with STAND-ALONE option. I still got the same error. So checking with other users/developers they gave me the following fix that WORKS:Go to “regedit”, browse thru “HKLM_Local_Machine/Software/Microsoft/Shared Tools/Web Server Extensions/12.0/WSS/”. Then change the value of attribute named “ServerRole” from SINGLESERVER to APPLICATIONNow the Configuation wizard works. Since this seems to be a common error in sharepoint 2007 I do not know why this fix has not been posted before.
