ConfigMgr and BIND
Hi guys, I was asked if ConfigMgr was able to support BIND with no automatic update of it's records. Is there anything to change or to configure to be able to use the product and all of it's components? Thanks for the help. Mathieu

I was asked if ConfigMgr was able to support BIND with no automatic update of it's records. See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb633035.aspx: "To publish to DNS, the following two conditions must be met: Your DNS servers support service location resource records, using a version of BIND that is 8.1.2 or higher." Is that what you meant by "If Config was able to support BIND"?Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

Note that the link Torsten posted was just refering to a non-required feature -- that's why he was asking for clarification. ConfigMgr doesn't care about who is providing DNS - DNS is DNS is DNS. There are a couple of places that ConfigMgr heavily relies on DNS -- like AD System Discovery -- but as long as you know these and what is expected, the actual DNS provider is irrelevant.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys

Thank for the clarification, I only wanted to be sure that BIND will do the work and about if it was required to have an automatic update of DNS records or not. By what I can understand, the automatic update is not really required and by having things published in DNS, the clients will find their MP without any issues. Mathieu
