I'm trying to get our master images to work properly and I'm close to ripping the hair of my head. The capture process works fine. The image has all the defined software installed and SCCM can redeploy the image. The problem is in "Install Software updates". It just won't run. One of the benefits with the golden image is that it should be up to date so we don't have to install 50+ updates after every deployment. Our site is running in native mode and I've tried the following fixes that I found here on the forums: Set "SMSMP=mpserver.domain.com SMSSLP=slpserver.domain.com" in the Setup Windows and ConfigMGR client task Removed the "Enable this site system as a protected site system" on our top site Site Server. In the primary site properties selected "Allow HTTP communication for roaming and site assignment" and cheked the <ConfigMGRInstallPath>\bin\i386\MobileClient.tcf so the IISSSLState=95 is set as it should be. I've recreated the boot images after to be sure everyting is up to date. But still no updates are applied during the capture sequence. And it's driving me mad. Are you attempting to join Workgroup or domain with this reference image? Assuming you are doing it the correct way (joining workgroup) do the following: In your setup and configure configman client make sure you add SMSSLP="somevalue" and SMSMP="somevalue". Make sure to test the SLP value by opening IE and navigating to http://somevalue /sms_slp/slp.dll?site&sc=AppropriateSiteCode . If that doesn't work updates will fail. Assuming you passed the first step, make sure your updates are advertised to the "Unknown System/Computers" collection. When PXE booting the machine it is unknown (normally) and therefore won't be added to a typical collection where the software updates may already be advertised.

I configured my SMSSLP with the FQDN. When trying to access the /sms_slp/...
