Component Status Logs not showing computer names
We're using SCCM 2007 R3 and everything seemed to be running fine, but I noticed that the logs stopped reporting the computer names and such in the log files last week. For example, the SMS_Client_Config_Manager component logs, when resetting the count, would log the following line. SMS Component Status Summarizer reset the status of component "SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER", running on computer "SITE_COMPUTER_NAME", to OK. But now logs: SMS Component Status Summarizer reset the status of component "", running on computer "", to OK. Every log seems to be like that now. In every place that should be a computer or component name there is an empty set of quotes (""). We had a power outage at the facility that hosts the Site server so I suppose a service may not have started up correctly, but everything else seems to be running fine. There are no components in an error state, and all warnings have been addressed. What else can I check to make sure that these log entries are created accurately?

Hi, Use ConfigMgr service manager to be sure that these 2 components are ok. if you need help, look at this article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693987.aspxBechir Gharbi | http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/community/members/bgharbi/ | Time zone : GMT+1

Service manager reports that these componenets are running. The only components that are stopped are the discovery agents and site backup, which I believe are started on demand and shouldn't be running all the time anyway.

I've just suggested checking the 2 components above not all and yes discovery agents and site backup start on demand. Otherwise, could check statmgr.log and compsumm.logBechir Gharbi | http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/community/members/bgharbi/ | Time zone : GMT+1

It seems to be limited to my local machine. If I open up the console on the server itself the object names are populated correctly in the logs. I guess it's doing some sort of dynamic lookup of these names in the status message viewer and for whatever reason my local console isn't able to lookup these names remotely. I suppose it's not as big a problem as I initially thought, but it's still puzzling and I'd like to be able to diagnose issues from my local machine without having to open a remote desktop to the site server.

Found it. There's an option in the status message viewer (View -> Options -> General Tab) called "Resolve description strings" that was somehow unchecked. As soon as I checked that the component and computer names began displaying again. I feel like an idiot now.
