Comments: Employee Training Scheduling and Materials admin template
Hi all, I hope that this post eventually finds its way onto the screen of Sharepoint's development team. I have some general comments about the "Employee Training Scheduling and Materials" admin template for WSS 3.0. First: I really like this template and want to thank those who put it together. Second: I believe it can be improved. So the comments below are constructive criticisms (hopefully) and, well, questions (because it'd be fantastic if any of you can help me make improvements to this template). Comments: 1. There doesn't appear to be an easy method to send email messages to a list of registrants. This would be a desirable feature so that the event organizer could easily send a polite reminder to the list, as in: "Remember tomorrow's session, we're looking forward to seeing you there!" 2. Another limitation we have experienced is that an event in the Course Calendar cannot be created as a recurring event. Upon first thought, this seemed like an annoying oversight on Microsoft's part but as we discussed it more...the reason for this logical limitation became obvious. (That is each event may have a different group of attendees and I can understand the technical challenge to create recurring events which are 'not' identical but instead have different properties and relationships for each of the individual events). Nevertheless, if it's possible to build recurring events, then it would sure be a nice feature. 3. A third limitation is simply that, in our organization, the training teams operate courses and programs in a group of "Categories". These are superficial names applied to a 'series' of courses or workshops. It'd be great if it were possible to add a 'category' column to the calendar table (and have that column reflected in the 'My Registration' form). 4. The "People Picker" does not allow multiple users. This is *almost* a deal-breaker for us because many of our training sessions have multiple hosts/instructors. It would great if the "Instructor" column could be a list of people (rather than a single person). (Yes, I realize we can get around this by creating 'groups' and assigning the 'group' as the instructor...but often our courses are organized by adhoc partners or teams.) 5. and last. *This is the really important one - best for last.* The list of registrants cannot be edited -- it's read-only. This is a problem because: - our administrative assistance must keep track of attendees manually (despite the 'self-registration' functionality within this template). Why? because our staff get 'credit' for the courses they attend and therefore the administrative assistant *must* have the ability to remove people (who missed a session) or add people (if they attended but did not use the online registration process). Again...I really like this template and it's *almost* perfect out of the box. If I were able to resolve the issues above then this template would meet 100% of our requirements. Nice work folks! Any comments/help will be much appreciated.

My reasons for replying to this thread are 3-fold... I want to ditto everything Keyano said; particularly numbers 2 and 5. I would like to add a number 6. Most of our employees are field workers without access to PCs and their trainig is scheduled by their managers. However, this template ONLY allows for self-registration. This would would be #1 on my wish list. Lastly, I have been in the process of developing a simple LMS for my company and started using the ES&M template a few months ago. At that time, 'test' lessons that I created would automatically move from "Courses I am atteding" to "Courses I have attended". However, now that I'm back in testing mode, the Courses are no longer moving. I don't know if I was doing something before and that I don't remember or if the template behavior has changed. Has anyone experienced this problem where the course does not move from the one list to the after after the classend timehas passed? (Note: the instructor's "courses I amteaching" and "courses I have taught" is working fine). Thanks, in advance, for your help.

Keyano good points and very concrete. I have also been looking into this template but unfortunately the template won't match the requirements requested. I hope MS Sharepoint Group will have a look at this

Are the filled seats and available seats fields working for you? It is letting more users sign-up than the maximum. When someone unregisters, it is not decreasing the number of filled seats. These fields are not updated immediately Do you have any ideas on how to get this working? Thanks. Dilip

Moving to the General forum as this is not a question about customizing the standard code.

Do you have any constructive comments on the forums? You seem to be nothing more than a nay sayer. Why are you a moderator? If you are not going to add to the conversation, stay out!
