Column widths in email sent as MTHML (web archive) format
Hi there How do I control the widths of columns in a table when it is send to the end user as MHTML (web archive) format? The columns see to default to be too narrow for the data. This also seems to occur when the report has just a single textbox - it's rendered as a very narrow column in a table. TIA

Hi JofPowell, I think you need to set the proper widths of columns manually in the Report Design. Thanks.

Hi there I've already set the column widths appropriately in the design of the report, but it seems to make no difference when the report is rendered as web archive format in an email. Thanks

I find that it doesn't render correctly in Outlook 2007, it's fine using Outlook 2003 and even Outlook Web Access (Exchange Server 2003). Anyone else found this problem? Thanks

Hello, Yes we are aware of this issue. Outlook 2007 uses a different HTML rendering engine than Outlook 2003 does and unfortunately the way that it renders SSRS's MHTML email is different. We on the SSRS team fixed this in a SSRS 2005 cumulative update. I suggest contacting support and obtaining the latest update, which should address this width problem specifically. Best regards, Chris B.

I downloaded the Cumulative update package (build 3161) for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935356)to correct this issue but I ran into a problem. Since my Report Service is setup as Sharepoint Integrated Service, I'm not able to install the fix. Any suggestions? Thanks, Chris

I'm running into this problem too. I applied the cumulative update for SQL Server 2005 sp 2, that brought my @@Version level up to 9.0.3161.However it did not solve the issue. Is there a separate update for SSRS that I have to apply to fix this? If so, where do I get it? Thanks, Jon

The latest cumulative updateand 2005 SP3 beta both have this fix. This is a fix specifically for column width issues when viewing the report in Outlook 2007. Regarding a comment earlier on the thread, I'm not aware of any reason that the report server being in SharePoint mode would affect installation of the fix.

For some odd reason, the SP3 update won't allow me to update the MSSQLSERVER DB Service, Analysis Services, Reporting Services, and Integration Services. All other update options are fine.

The SP3 upgrade did not work for me. I did a new install of SQL 2005 and MOSS 2007 to a new server and still having the same issue.

Hi JofPowell, Do you had resolved this problem, Ihave testing it for a period of time, but the problem still. At last,we can do as following: 1. No use single textbox at report 2. Use rectagle outside of table 3. Make the rectagle widths asAppropriate as you test

Hello Lake, As I stated earlier in the thread, I tried installing the Cumulative Update (CU) but it did not work for me. Here's the link to download the update. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935356I also called up Microsoft for help but since my company didn't purchase the support plan, I stuck trying to figure this out myself. Currently, I have three separate SharePoint boxes running and they all don't work regarding this issue. I plan on waiting for the next release of SharePoint which I hope will include the fix. The other alternative Lake, is to limit the amount of information you have on the table, this will make the table smaller which will fit into an email body correctly. The last alternative is to use the SQL mail to produce the html email. Let me know if you need the sample code for that. Here's Microsoft Tech Support phone number if you need it. 1-800-936-4900 Chris

Lake, Since this thread is about SharePoint I didn't want to put SQL code in this thread. I emailed you the sql code so check your qq.com email. Chris

Folks - if you're experiencing SP3 installation issues, please file bug reports using http://connect.microsoft.com. We highly appreciate you trying the prerelease versions of our products and need your detailed input to find issues with installation program before we release SP3. When you file the bugs, please include the setup logs. These are typically located here: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG. For the column width issue, please also fild a bug report through http://connect.microsoft.com and provide a repro RDL built on top of Northwind, Pubs, or AdventureWorks that we can use reproduce the problem in our testing. Hope that helps, -Lukasz
