Clients slow to pickup Advertisement
Hello all SCCM 2007 SP2 R2 on Windows 2008 R2 Client = Windows XP SP3 On several test computers, I've deployed the client successfully then sent out a simple package to defrag the hard drive (package properties = whether or not user is login in). I set the advertisement to be mandatory as soon as possible. That was nearly 6 hours ago and finally one of my computers start the package only after I went into the Configuration Manager (in control panel) then actions tab and initiate action for all of the listed items. Then the computer kicked off the advertisement immediately. How do often does the computer report back to SCCM for new advertisements?

With a default installation, "Machine Policy" is every 60 minutes. However, you may have modified that to daily or something. To check, look at Site Settings, Client Agents, Computer Client Agent (on the right), right-click properties on that. "Policy polling interval (minutes)" out-of-the-box is normally 60. Note that if you have to change it from some larger frequency back to 60, because your current boxes right now will only check for updated policies every 99 minutes (just making that number up), they won't go check to see that they should from now on, check every 60 minutes, until the 99 minutes as passed. So you are sort of in a catch-22. But only for that longest interval.Standardize. Simplify. Automate.

One thing that I do is change the Modify Collection Settings on the Test machine collections to about 10 mins. This is only about 4 machines that represent most of the departments. This allows me to test the application and have it appear quickly. Once I am satisfied then I can test some of the production machines that are running normal policy intervals. http://www.sccm-tools.com http://sms-hints-tricks.blogspot.com
