Clients SMS Agent service keeps restarting?
We run a monitoring tool on our servers and it shows that the SMS Agent service keeps stopping and starting... Is this normal?
January 21st, 2009 5:30pm

Are those servers SMS Site Servers? or just clients? What does the eventlogs say on the servers? If it's repairing itself/restarting, it'll be reflected in the event logs. Standardize. Simplify. Automate.

This is not normal. You can also check ccmexec.log to see what's going on (there might be some hints in it).

They are just regular client servers.Nothing in application log.System log - these are all informational message. The SMS Agent Host service was successfully sent a stop control. The SMS Agent Host service entered the stopped state. The SMS Agent Host service was successfully sent a start control. The SMS Agent Host service entered the running state.Just not sure if that's normal for it to keep restarting

I also just noticed those clients weren't "approved" I set them to approved. Not sure if that would cause this issue.

Another issue... ccmExec and svchost (which i'm assuming config manager uses) is slowing down some machines quite a bit.... Why do those two proccesses have so much activity? It's been two days and they still have quite a bit of activity.

Hi, Was a solution found for this issue? i am having the same problem with some servers on my secondary SCCM site (not sure this this is relevent, but i haven't noticed it happen to any on the primary). If they are rebooted the SMS agent host service seems to restart constantly. I have tried setting this service on a 'delayed startup' as suggested on other threads, but this doesn't seem to help, and my SCOM alerting is going a bit crazy with alerts as a result. Any ideas? Cheers, Craig
