Client data migration over slow WAN
Hi all,
I'm currently in the process of upgrading one of my clients that is running server 2003.
They have a slow upload link so I am not able to upload the hundred and 150 GB from their site. This site is about five hours drive away from the nearest city. I have taken a copy of their data and will be uploading this into Azure virtual machines or storage. The problem I'm having is that the copy I have is already a few days old so I need to be able to on a daily basis sync data from on-site with what I have already copied into Azure. I have gone through a number of file copying applications such as Cloud Berry, AzCopy, etc. and they all seem to change the date modified of the files when they are copied across. Can I get some opinions of what you guys are using in order to do the above.
Thanks for help in advance.

Hi

When you upload the data to Azure, the "last Modified" date of that file will show the uploaded time. Please let us know your exact requirement about the date modification time of the file.

And when you upload the same file again to same destination folder on azure, the file in azure gets updated.

Manu

Thanks for your reply Manu. What I would like to do is the following:

Copy data from onsite server (Server 2003 R2) onto USB drive and take back to my office to upload to Azure as initial seed. This is because my connection is much faster than at clients' office. Once this has been uploaded setup a daily sync from client's server to sync any changes done that day to the data in Azure.

The applications I have tried so far to do this is not working or I am not doing it right.

Hi Rene,

You could refer the following link for various methods to copy data from On-Premises server/s to Azure Storage:
https://github.com/Azure/azure-content/blob/master/articles/data-management-options-for-transferring-data.md

AzCopy command line utility would be ideal for one time high performance data movement between On-Premises and Azure, if transferring the data via network is practical.

However, as you require a daily data sync between on-premises server to Azure, might I suggest you use Azure Data Factory:
https://github.com/Azure/azure-content/blob/master/articles/data-factory-get-started.md
https://github.com/Azure/azure-content/blob/master/articles/data-factory-introduction.md

or Azure Site Recovery?
http://azure.microsoft.com/en-in/documentation/articles/site-recovery-vmware-to-azure/

Malar.
