Client Patch during OSD under Setup Windows and ConfigMgr
Dear All, I am facing an issue with regards to task step "setup windows and configmgr". During the OSD, my task sequence used to hang on 1 of 93 updates available and never downloads any updates and stays there for hours. I read on internet and has been redirected to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509007 to resolve the issue. I was then having issues where I had permission issues on the client manager folder where task seq was unable to read the hotfix. I was using PATCH="\\Rcsccm01\sms_rc1\Client\i386\hotfix\KB2509007\sccm2007ac-sp2-kb2509007-x86-enu.msp" under the setup windows and configmgr step. The install is working fine and I managed to deploy several machines. Now the real issue. Before applying this patch my advertisement for the different packages were working just fine. However since I have applied this patch whenever I advertise an application/package to the collection it is received by the clients but never get installed. On one client I then uninstall the client through console manager and then I rebooted the client. I then again install the client through console manager and then again advertise the package. Instead of waiting for the cycle to re-sync the software inventory i manually initiated the configmanager actions. The advertisement is received and also installed successfully. Even all the advertisements which were advertised on the collection got installed successfully. This shows that the issue is coming through when ever I deploy a machine and I have PATCH="\\Rcsccm01\sms_rc1\Client\i386\hotfix\KB2509007\sccm2007ac-sp2-kb2509007-x86-enu.msp" in the setup windows and configmgr. Because when i manually uninstall and install the client through consolemanager it is obviously installing client without the patch. Hence everything start working as desired. Also this SCCM server is setup by third party vendor and I dont want to involve them due to financial restrictions. Our vendor had also install http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977384 which is not used anywhere to patch the client however the package does exist in the sccm tree. This is just for your info. I wonder what I am missing or what step I am not achieving as required. Any ideas will be much appreciated. I would have removed the patch but as there are some updates which should be installed and I dont want task sequence to never complete. Thanks in anticipation. Farzan

Hi, Yes i found that i was stuck in provision mode. Thankyou Don for the article. It has helped me to resolve the issue and yes the issue was exactly the same. I was installing Symantec Endpoint antivirus solution and was using task to restart computer. I believe that the symantec services which start after rebboting the system does not allow to intialize the client. Therefore I removed the restart task which was the last task in my TS and now everything is working again. Thanks to both of you
