Clicking on Work and Excel document closes IE for user
Hi, I have one particular user, who whenever they click on Excel or Word links on the intranet, get a closed browser window. Internet Explorer just shuts down - this doesn't happen to any other users. I've cleared user's browser cache and profile, but still this happens for this 1 user. Any ideas appreciated... thx IT Support/Everything

Hi, This needs some diagnosis: 1. What happens when he right clicks on it? 2. Is the behavior same when he tries the same from other browsers? 3. Have you looked at the logs to check if anything goes wrong? Thanks, Rahul Rashu

rash, Thanks for the reply, I haven't tried the right click. We're in a citrix environment, so another browser isn't an option Nothing extraordinary in the logs I'll ask the user to right click and try open in new tab/openIT Support/Everything

Hi, Are you getting the error if you do not use citrix? Thanks, Rahul Rashu

Rash, It works when clicking open in a new window/tab. We're within a Citrix environment so another browser isnt an option. I've deleted the profile, plus the Citrix apps folder (which holds settings for IE, outlook, etc), but again this still hasn't fixed the issue. The only other thing I can think of is a registry setting somewhere which affects this. After talking to the user, she told me not to worry, however if anyone has any suggestions it'd be nice to know. thx IT Support/Everything

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938888 Internet Explorer crashes (stops responding) when you try to open an Office document in a SharePoint document library You connect to a document library in a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 site or in a Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 site by using Windows Internet Explorer 7 or Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. However, when you try to open a Microsoft Office document, Internet Explorer crashes (stops responding). This problem occurs if the following conditions are true, in the order in which they are presented: You install a Microsoft Office 2003 product on the computer. You install one or more 2007 Office system programs on the computer. You repair or update the installation of an Office 2003 product. In this scenario, the older version of the Name.dll file becomes the registered version. When the Owssupp.dll file is used, it tries to use functionality that is not available. This condition causes Internet Explorer to crash (stop responding).
