Clear FIM database?
I'm experimenting with FIM 2010 in a lab environment. I only have an HR flat file MA and the FIM MA installed. I want to blow everything away and start over. Deleting the connector space on the HR MA clears those objects, but after deleting the connector space on the FIM MA, those users are still in the FIM database. What needs to be done to delete them from FIM? Thanks, Greg

The best way would be to restore the FIM Service database from a backup that you took just after you installed the FIM Service... My guess is that you didn't take a backup (since you are asking here), so I would be inclined to re-install the FIM Service from scratch. You will want to uninstall the FIM Service, drop the associated database (usually "FIMService"), and then re-install the FIM Service. Once you do this be sure to take a backup so that rolling back is easier the next time. Check out this item in the "scriptbox": http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ilm2/thread/d2d575a1-35b8-4ce0-b40a-a060115da961. It talks about managing multiple lab setups with FIM (and has some code for resetting the environment). Rex

Ok, I'll attempt to do that. For a short term alternative, would deleting Users via the FIM Portal suffice?

Depends how many there are - manually selecting them and deleting them is a pain. As Rex says, a good technique is to take a backup of an empty FIM DB (and an empty sync DB) when developing to have ready to restore. Especially if you are dealing with large numbers of objects. Don't forget to run and Full Import Full Sync after deleting from the FIM Portal to clear out the FIM MA CS. If you have set your MV deletion rule to delete when disconnected from the HR MA, the MV objects will be deleted and then you simply run an export to FIM to export all the deletions - but again, if you have lots of objects this can take some time. Stick to no more than 10 or so when doing dev, then do a full load once your rules and customizations have all been tested. Dave Nesbitt | Architect | Oxford Computer Group

If you are only concerned with the users, try Carol's PowerShell script from the ScriptBox: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ilm2/thread/58796732-a605-4f22-8c27-17ea4f0968fe Thanks, Keith

Thanks for all the responses. I've manually deleted them, I only have a couple hundred users in this instance, so deleting 30 at a time wasn't too terrible. Carol's script looks handy, but dangerous. :) I'll make a backup once I'm back to square one.
