Clarification regarding secondary site and clients assignments.
I’m trying to get clarification regarding secondary site and clients assignments. I was under the impression in using a secondary site you would assign clients to that secondary site as long as the client falls within the boundary of the secondary site. Or potential clients within the boundary of a secondary site would be assigned to the secondary site automatically via Client Push Installation. The remark from MS: Configuration Manager 2007 clients cannot be assigned to secondary sites; they are always assigned to the parent primary site. However, if they reside in the boundaries of the secondary site, they can take advantage of any proxy management points and distribution points at the secondary site. So, if they “take advantage of any proxy management points and DPs at the secondary site” am I to understand they would then be assigned to that secondary site? Or do they remain assigned to the Primary but still “take advantage… of the secondary site”. A lot of our secondary site assigned clients don’t appear to be getting the client installed or they are installed but reporting “No” for the client. In the present login script, the client installed to a secondary site is getting assigned to a MP outside of the secondary site, instead of the MP which is in itself a role of the secondary site. By the above remark I’m wondering if the MP should be assigned to the MP on the secondary site server. Or should I just never ever assign the site code to the secondary site? How does one make use of the Client Push Installation under a secondary site? Thanks!

ConfigMgr07 Clients are always assigned to Primary Site and only legacy clients can be assigned to secondary site (refer documentation). The above documentation comment for clients in secandary site bounadry can use proxy MP but it does not says that you can assign to secandary site. Being saying that you should assign all clients to primary site only and use either MP role attached to Primary site or using proxy MPs. And regarding the Client push installation please use primary site. Hope this helps! Thanks, Shitanshu

Very much so. Thank you! So will they automatically use the proxy MP from within the same boundary or does the MP need to be specified in the ccmsetup /mp: properties?
