Clarification in sccm client machine
Hi, I have one small doubts regarding the SCCM client cache in client machines. Under CCM\Cache i can find the msi applications some with name as TST00abc.1.System and some msi applications with folder name as TST00321.1.S-1-5-21-36943883-714553068-3808660527-2074. Now what i need to know is what is the difference betweeen the msi created under the folder name TST00abc.1.System and the msi created under the folder nameTST00321.1.S-1-5-21-36943883-714553068-3808660527-2074 ? Can any one please advice me. Thank You. Kind Regards, S.Yuvaraj.

The one that ends with "system" is the result of an advertisement targeted at the machine and the one with the SID at the end is targeted at the user with the specified .SID

Hi Eirik Hamer, But we are deploying all the advertisement to machine based collections and not to user based collections. Kindly advice. Thank You. Yuvaraj.

It also depends on the user that initiated the download if I am not mistaken.

Even if it's targeted to a machine there is an option to run a program once for every user that logs on. Is it possible that this is the case for the program in question?

Hi Eirik Hamer, The reason for this question is i need to check if the installation of msi runs in the user context or system context since one of the msi is failing while running an advertisement in the standard user id. Also could you please elaborate abt Thanks in advance.

If you, on the Environment tab of a program, choose to run a program with user's rights you get an option on the Advanced tab that says "When this program is assigned to a computer". Set this to "Run once for every user that logs on". In my last post I simplified a little. You can advertise to a machine and still get a folder name containing the SID of a user if the program is set to run with user's rights. To see which context is used, check execmgr.log and search for "User context". If local system is used it will say [NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM], otherwise it will specify a user account.

Hi Eirik Hamer, Thanks for your kind information. I will also check the execmgr log file for the same. The problem is one application advertisement is failing when we try to run the application advertisement with standard user id but the same advertisement is running fine when we try to run the advertisement with admin id. We have set the advertisement to run with amin rights but still it fails with standard user id. Thank You. Kind Regards, S.Yuvaraj.
