Changing the domain pointing for SharePoint installation
My client has a SharePoint 2007 installation. As their company is taken over by other company, they no longer want to stay with the existing domain / Active Directory. They have setup a new domain and want to switch over the SharePoint's domain pointing to the new domain. What necessary actions are required to make the switch over possible.Thanks.

The best thing to do is to do a backup and restore of the site collections from the current domain to the new domain. Start here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/gayanpeiris/archive/2008/03/16/back-up-and-restore-by-using-stsadm.aspx I trust that answers your question... Thanks C http://www.cjvandyk.com/blog

Thanks for your solution. My problem is bit different. Here my client will use the same physical server and just want to change the pointing to new domain. Is it possible? I believe the SharePoint server needs to be added as a member of new domain. Then it will automatically start picking up new users from the domain it is member of and at the same time will be cutoff from the old domain. Also users from the old domain will have to migrated to the new domain. After migration of users in domain, we need to run stsadm -o migrateuser -oldlogin <domain\name> -newlogin <domain\name> for each user to migrate them in SharePoint. Please correct me if I am wrong.
