Changing the SQL server service account (not the farm account)
Dear all, In order to try to solve our Kerberos authentication problem I was advised to have the SQL server service account changed from LOCAL SYSTEM to a domain account. What steps do I need to follow to acomplish this and I wonder if there will be any implications on the farm environment. If the change has no big impact, I was thinking to use the account I used to install SharePoint (mossadmin). Would it be a problem? Thanks in advance. Regards, GonçaloGonalo

Is the MOSSAdmin account being used anywhere else? I would recommend you create a unique domain account named something more meaningful like SQLAdmin or SQLService to run the service. Changing the account of the underlying SQL service does not require any changes to SharePoint, but it will lead to a short period of downtime when the SQL databases are not available.SharePoint Server MVP | Architect | Developer | Administrator | Speaker-- Twitter -- Blog - http://nextconnect.blogspot.com

Mike, Thanks. That sound good to me. I will propose a creation of a mossSQL account and if there is no impact in the SharePoint farm architecture I will change it. I will let you know of any updates. Cheers, Gonçalo Gonçalo

Thanks Mike. I've done wha you propose with a new account and so far I have no impact on SharePoint. I still have the kerberos problem though.... :-( Cheers, GonçaloGonalo
