Changing The Sharepoint App pool creates authentication for sharepoint site?
Hello, I Followed this guide on how to configure sharepoint to allow incoming email: http://www.combined-knowledge.com/Downloads/2007/How%20to%20configure%20Email%20Enabled%20Lists%20in%20Moss2007%20RTM%20using%20Exchange%202007.pdf My Environment: 1 server running Windows server 2008 SBS x64, Sharepoint 2007, Exchange 2007 As I continued down the instructions, I changed a few things based on my needs: The Central Service Administration Account was directed to a user account named "sharepoint admin" my folder is named "sharepoint" and has read, write, and create child objects delegated to the sharepoint admin account. Inside the DNS manager my settings are as follows: Nothing in the host or child domain text box, server.saccontrolsys.com Inside the SMTP Virtual Properties -> access -> Relay restrictions I have the local IP address of the server with access granted. Sharepoint is directed to the sharepoint OU and the SMTP mail server is set at server.saccontrolsys.com My problem is that when I try to set up the email account for incoming email for a document library, i get the "error in the application" do you have any suggestions to remove the cause of this error...it generalizes the problem just a little bit! ha ha Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Gowan Joslin

Hi DefaultUser, 1. Logon Domain Controller. Install Windows support tool from Windows installation CD SUPPORT\TOOLS folder. 2. Click "Start"; "Run"; type "adsiedit.msc" (without quotation marks). 3. Expand Note Schema and click "CN=Schema, CN=Configuration,DC=nationalanalysts,DC=com". 4. Search if you can find two attributes "CN= ms-Exch-mail-Nickname" and "CN= ms-Exch-RequireAuthToSendTo". If you don't find them, run the setup of Exchange with setup/forestprep and it will automatically register these two attributes with AD. Then check the effect. Hi Rock, Thank you for your response! I have a few more troubleshooting descriptions I have done, and still sharepoint will not allow incoming email, now when enabling the document list email, I get the: "Error in the application" message. I have cleared all the settings I had done previous to your post, and followed the guide step by step. Here are some of my settings/concerns Inside of IIS manager 7 -> <myserver> ->application pool i have <mydomain>\sharepointadmin as the identity of "SBS Sharepoint AppPool" and "Sharepoint Central Administration v3" Inside of AD, the OU I created is called "Sharepoint", when I select Delegate Control... I do not see the sharepointadmin user inside of that list I have a feeling my problem stems from this, do you happen to have any more advice? is there anything I can do to fix this? Thank you so much, Gowan Joslin

Hello, I recently have gone through Microsoft's checklist of how to set up Sharepoint to have incoming emails. I went through all the steps, however, when I try to enable a list I created, I get a "Error in application". Also, when I change the app pool account in the "service accounts" the http://companyweb/ constantly askes users for authentication. does anyone have some troubleshooting tips? Thank you, Gowan

Hi DefaultUser, On the whole, there are many reasons can cause this issue. Did you use the Directory Management Service? If so, did you grant the domain account "Full Control" to the specific OU? If not, correct it and try again. In addition, check whether you add the application pool identity account of the company website to the local administrators on the SharePoint servers. If not, please add it to the local admins, then check the whether incoming e-mail works well. With regard to the second question, changing the password of a SharePoint security account or the farm's configuration account is a remarkably complex undertaking. Among other things, you must apply changes in Active Directory and in the SharePoint server's local Security Account Manager (SAM) database, in the Service Control Manager (SCM) database, in the IIS metabase, in SQL Server, and, of course, in SharePoint content and configuration databases. For more information about the underlying processes that facilitate password changes, please refer to the following articles: Maintaining Security Account Credentials http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2009.02.insidesharepoint.aspx Moreover, please refer to the following article to check whether you steps are correct.
