Changing SSP for SharePoint website
Greetings, I have a SharePoint installation on MOSS 2007 which has 3 Shared Services and their database are not organized at all, they are hosted on 3 different instances of SQL Express, so I want to organize things and put the 3 websites on a single SSP. If I created a new fresh SSP and moved all sites to this new SSP, what will be the impact on the sites? What will I lose? I can't find a source that states clearly what is actually stored in the SSP website. Thanks in advance

An SSP host the services that will be consumed by any associated Web applications. These services are: Search and Indexing Profiles Business Data Catalog Connections Audiences Single Sign On Excel Services Usage Reporting When the Web application is associated with an SSP all the sites that belong to this Web application will use the services listed above that are configured on the SSP. so you may loose all the features stated above if you had configured your existing SSP's for these services may refer this for more detail: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/martinkearn/archive/2006/06/06/moss-architecture-_2600_-shared-services.aspx Manish Sati

Thank you for your reply Manish, So if I did not configure any of those services, I will lose nothing if I create new SSP and move all sites to it right?

yes, if you have not configured all those then you won't loose anything. Then you can create new SSP and change the association. Thanks & Regards, Neerubee
